How can I know this is for real?
That's an excellent question and we don't blame you for asking. There have been a tremendous number of hoax and scam Internet sites, and if you don't know us personally and were to take this at face value without authentication, it would be a true injustice; the real monster would not be cancer but the creator of this web site. As much as we wish it wasn't real, unfortunately it is. Here are our suggestions: (1) Contact Columbia Presbyterian Hospital's cancer and eye clinics and verify that Thomas is a patient. They will probably not release his diagnosis, however. (2) Contact the Danbury Church of Christ and verify that they do indeed know of Thomas and have setup a fund for him and his family. (3) Read the guest book. Many of the entries, especially the early ones, are personal and are obviously from people who know Thomas directly. (4) Contact the State of Connecticut regarding our recent registration of the Art for Hope Foundation as a nonprofit corporation. (5) Contact the Danbury News-Times regarding the April 7 article they did on Thomas.
Can you tell us more about the Art for Hope Foundation?
Our dreams for this concept, helping the families of children with terminal illnesses through the sale of the children's own artwork, go far beyond this one web site. The Art for Hope Foundation is the nonprofit organization we are working to form for this purpose. The effort is already underway.
What is the specific type of cancer that Thomas has?
The medical term for Thomas's cancer is mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. This is a very rare cancer related to bone, cartilage, and other types of connective tissue. It is extremely rare in children, and the presentation of a tumor from this cancer in the eye orbit of a child, as was the case with Thomas, is virtually unheard of.
Can I send a card to Thomas in the mail?
Yes. Information on where to send your card can be found on the Contact Us page.
Can I send an email to Thomas?
We'd rather you leave a comment in the Guest Book so that your message can become a permanent part of the site, but yes, you can send an email to Thomas. See the Contact Us page for more information.
Why doesn't anything happen when I click on a thumbnail image or a "buy" button?
Your browser must have Javascript enabled. If you have disabled Javascript or are running a utility that blocks Javascript, you will need to reenable it or configure the utility to allow Javascript on the ThomasPacheco.org web site. Without Javascript enabled you will not be able to preview, purchase, or download pictures.
How do I download my images?
This depends on what you purchased. If you purchased the option for full access, just login; every picture on the site will have a download link. If you don't have full access but have purchased individual images, prints, or originals, login and go to the Gallery and click on the My Pictures link. All of your purchases will be displayed with download links.
How do I get my username and password?
The first time you make a purchase, an account will be created for you. Your username will always be the email you used for your purchase, and your password will be sent to you in an email message. If you make subsequent purchases, your username and password will be resent to you in a reminder email.
What if I forgot my password?
Go to the Login page and click the "Forgot Password" link. A new password will be generated and emailed to your registered email address.
What is the resolution of the downloadable images?
The images are available in resolutions from 640 x 480 up to 1600 x 1200. The download page for an image always gives you access to the image at all of its available resolutions.
Can I help out by donating my own child's artwork to the gallery?
Absolutely. If you want to do this, contact us to work out the details.
Can my purchases be considered a tax deductible donation?
Although this site exists for a charitable purpose, purchases of goods or services can never be claimed as a tax deduction. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation, a fund has been established for Thomas's family through the Church of Christ in Danbury, Connecticut. Visit the donations page for more information.
If I'm not interested in the artwork but still want to help, can I just make a donation?
Well, we can't imagine you wouldn't be interested in Thomas's artwork (grin), but yes, you can. A fund for Thomas and his family has been established through the Church of Christ in Danbury, Connecticut. Visit the donations page for more information.
